Overview of the program
Automotive design is the process of developing the appearance, and to some extent the ergonomics, of motor vehicles, including automobiles, motorcycles, trucks, buses, coaches, and vans. The functional design and development of a modern motor vehicle is typically done by a large team from many different disciplines. The task of the design team is usually split into three main aspects: exterior design, interior design, and color and trim design. Graphic design is also an aspect of automotive design.
While there is much overlap between the two fields, there are slight differences between them. Automobile engineers apply engineering principles in overall design, maintenance, and operation of automobiles. A car designer is involved in the design of interior structures and external appearance of automobiles.
Many Automotive giants have their design and development centers in India. Car design is both a lucrative and competitive field in the market. Freshers can expect to make a starting salary between 2-3 lacs per annum. The average salary of senior car designers is around 8 lacs per year.
